La Chola Poblete
The award “Artist of the Year” is given at the recommendation of the Deutsche Bank Global Art Advisory Council, consisting of the renowned curators Hou Hanru, Udo Kittelmann and Victoria Noorthoorn.
La Chola Poblete has been named Deutsche Bank's “Artist of the Year” for 2023. The Argentinian critically examines the consequences of colonialism and white supremacy. In paintings, watercolors, sculptures, and performances, she reflects on her indigenous and queer roots and opposes the stereotyping and exoticization of indigenous peoples. La Chola Poblete will present her first solo exhibition in Europe at Berlin’s PalaisPopulaire in 2023.

Since 2010, Deutsche Bank has presented an annual award to an artist, offering a platform for new, global positions in contemporary art. The work of the “Artist of the Year” must always be of social and artistic relevance and develop new perspectives on the present. The tailored package includes an exhibition, a catalog, and purchases for the bank’s corporate collection. Nominations for the award are proposed by Deutsche Bank’s Global Art Advisory Council, consisting of curators Hou Hanru (MAXXI, Rome), Udo Kittelmann (Museum Burda, Baden-Baden), and Victoria Noorthoorn (Museo de Arte Moderno, Buenos Aires).
