SundayPopulaire: Who are you?
Free workshop for families and children 6 and olderWho am I or who would I like to be? What do I like and what is my superpower? These questions are not only asked by children. The artist La Chola Poblete also asks herself where she comes from, what she likes, what makes her happy or sad in her life. Together we will search for clues in the exhibition and decipher mysterious images and signs. Afterward, we will paint each other on large sheets of paper. What thoughts do I have in my head, what feelings are in my heart, and what is in my stomach? Finally, we will talk about our self-portraits.

SundayPopulaire goes green
Free upcycling workshop for families and children 6 and olderPlastic waste is a big problem for our environment. But what should we do with it? Our new workshop series focuses on the topic of sustainability. Together we will look at works from our exhibitions that are made of natural and artificial materials and gain inspiration to talk about their meaning and reuse. We'll examine things from everyday life that other people no longer need, talk about their original function, and create useful, fun, or just beautiful objects from them. It would be great if the participants could bring some things from home like empty toilet paper rolls, yogurt pots, etc. that would have otherwise ended up in the trash. Let’s see if they can be turned into art!

SundayPopulaire: Free reading and talk of the book for young people “Fred and I” with author Lena Hach
for children aged 10-12Even in winter, Anni bathes every morning in a lake on the outskirts of town. The reasons for this are complicated. Things get even more complicated when she meets Fred, who is visiting for a week. Lena Hach tells of these seven days, during which the two become closer. First feelings of love are in the air, and Anni learns right at the beginning that Fred is trans. Suddenly they have to learn new words, because the old ones can be hurtful. Freshly fallen snow, slithering footsteps across the ice, and jumping into the bone-chilling water—the story’s setting reflects the unfamiliar newness, caution, and courage inherent in this beginning. On the occasion of La Chola Poblete’s exhibition, we invite you to attend the reading and talk with author Lena Hach.

SundayPopulaire: "The Color of Lemons" by Kenesha Sneed
free book presentation and workshop for families and children 5-8 years oldBased on the exhibition “The Struggle of Memory,” which is about remembering and telling stories, we will read The Color of Lemons, the debut picture book by African-American artist Kenesha Sneed. It tells the story of little Eisha, who makes a mold out of clay in the studio of her mother, who is a ceramic artist. The yellow mold makes Eisha especially happy because it reminds her of last summer when she picked lemons with her dad. Suddenly, the mold falls to the ground and shatters into pieces. Kenesha Sneed tells us a story about sadness, loss, and farewell, but also about the power of memory and creativity, which we will then demonstrate ourselves in a workshop.

SundayPopulaire: Bread masks
Free workshop for families and children 6 and olderBread is baked all over the world. Whether it’s whole wheat bread as in Germany, crispbread from Scandinavia or naan bread in India, bread is a staple across the globe. For the Argentine La Chola Poblete, bread is so important that it is part of her art. We’ll take a closer look at this in her exhibition. Afterward, we will bake bread ourselves in the shape of masks, which you can later take home and eat.

MusicArt@Palais
Free exhibition expedition with members of the Berliner Philharmoniker for families with children 6 and olderThe second part of the exhibition The Struggle of Memory is about remembering and telling stories. How do you remember special moments or stories? With pictures, smells, or maybe even sounds? Together the Berliner Philharmoniker and the PalaisPopulaire invite children ages 6 and older to explore musical and artistic worlds based on individual works of art. On a musical exhibition expedition, we hum the shape of a work of art, ask ourselves whether material can be translated into a hard or soft sound, and discover how loud and quiet colors are. An exhibition visit becomes a first concert experience that invites us to participate, but also to listen and watch.
