    MusicArt@Palais

Free exhibition expedition with members of the Berliner Philharmoniker for grades 1-3

Do you know your parents’ or grandparents’ favorite song? Do you like to sing it and listen to it as well? Just like the facades of buildings change over time, the music genres and styles that are heard inside homes also evolve. But there are always melodies that connect us. Together, the Berlin Philharmonic and the PalaisPopulaire invite children from the age of 6 to explore creative worlds inspired by individual works of art from the exhibition It’s Just a Matter of Time. The exhibition visit thus becomes a first concert experience that encourages participation, as well as listening and contemplating.

    BookArt

Free reading of the book and workshop for 1-3 graders

On the occasion of the exhibition, It’s Just a Matter of Time, we would like to talk with you about the peculiarities of time and, in the following workshop, design our own book on this topic. Time is a strange thing. If you think about it and research it for a long time, a whole kaleidoscope of amazing certainties, curious facts, philosophical depths, and unanswerable questions opens up. In his book artwork Now, David Böhm has gathered this dazzling richness of facets. Together with you, we would like to dive into it and exchange ideas about time measurement, time zones, and time perception—about mayflies and Greenland sharks, marvel at the craziest 1-minute world records, and set our own.

  • Workshop: A Journey Through Time and Art

A Journey Through Time and Art

Free program for kindergartens, 1st and 2nd grades

Together, we will embark on a discovery tour through the exhibition and look at artworks that tell us many different stories from various times. These are stories about past times and events, in Berlin, Istanbul, New York, but also in other cities and countries, that continue to occupy us to this day. Afterwards, you can create your own picture story with pen and paper.

  • Workshop: Das Rad der Zeit

Turning Back the Wheel of Time

Free program for 3rd to 6th graders

During the summer holidays, time can feel like it’s racing by—yet when you’re waiting for the weekend, it almost seems to stand still. Time can flow, run, pass, or seem to stop altogether. It can heal wounds, but it can also wear down books and buildings. The many faces of time reveal how hard it is to define and how closely it’s tied to our personal experience. The artworks in the exhibition It’s Just a Matter of Time explore time from different angles. When does something become history? In a fleeting moment, are we still in the present or already slipping into the past? Join us as we reflect on these and other questions while exploring time creatively together.

  • Workshop: Chairs, Lamps, and Sweaters – How Do We Understand Installations?

Chairs, Lamps, and Sweaters – How Do We Understand Installations?

Free program for 7th grade and above

Installations in contemporary art are three-dimensional, site-specific works. They are always based on a concept, a fundamental idea by the artist. Installations often question ideologies and value systems, frequently using everyday objects – sometimes even found objects. During our tour of the exhibition, we will focus on installations and the stories they tell. We will look at works by Georges Tony Stoll, Rosemarie Trockel, and Philippe Parreno, among others, and explore the concepts behind these and other installations. The aim is to understand how everyday objects are introduced into the art context and what meanings they take on in this context.
