In the painting o.T. (…die Blumen und wo den Sonnenschein und den Schatten der Erde...) (1987–98), Galli depicts a fantastic, enigmatic scene around a glittering sunrise. Alternating tones of orange and yellow backlight a barren tree without branches, from whose single shoot grows a sharpened blade of a knife. The left side of the painting has yet to reach the day, as extruding feet holding a utensil paints itself into existence. Swirling gestural lines define this work as well as others in the room, creating a dynamic that suggests an impressionistic influence as light affects a particular time of day. Painted over a period which extended more than a decade, the hurried lines below probably conceal another subject altogether.
