The painting o.T. (17.6.88) (1988) is a rather peculiar, almost atypical image for Galli. The image of an actual, albeit mutilated body, is an exception in her work. An almost complete figure with two legs, two arms, an upper body, and a head got off lightly, only having to leave her hands. Although Galli stylistically refrains from the symbolic dismemberment of the body here, the work relates in its brutality to a series of blood and butchery pictures, characterized by bestially dressed, desecrated, and fragmented bodies, in which already executed acts of violence manifest themselves on the canvas. This work, despite its clear image, fits into this cycle, which is the culmination of Galli’s existential and corporeal investigations. The atrocities revealed by the canvas touch on existential conditions that have been interpreted in a painterly fashion. Ultimately, however, these conditions remain private and left to the imagination of the viewing public. (Annabell Burger)
