Mushrooms are a common subject in Galli’s work, found repeatedly in her drawings, artist’s books, and paintings. The mushroom, which grows naturally close and low to the ground, takes on fantastical scale, disproportionally assuming the height of a tree or a house. The compositions of the mushrooms, often colorful and abstracted with windows and doors, could refer on the one hand to their hallucinatory properties, and on the other to the idea of home outside the usual constructions or ways of life.
