The title of the book, Für Edeltraud, Autobahngeschichte 1999 (1999), suggests a simple narrative related to car travel turned fantastic. The content is formed with heavy color and line work at the beginning and end, with a short reprieve drawn in graphite before an opera-like finish, as bolded capitalized text flies diagonally across the pages. The humorous, sometimes Dadaist story quickly gives an idea of Galli’s outstanding ability to juggle with words.
Alternatively, Gallis Buch (2010–2013) begins with simple drawings in a domestic setting and with a figure sitting down for a meal. But suddenly an amputated leg is held high before the serving of a loaf of bread. From here, the domestic scenes switch back and forth between pleasant drawings and contorted limbs rendered in overlapping washes of color. Aspects of Galli’s home and studio, as well as the banal everyday activities of life, are juxtaposed with fields of giant mushrooms, and houses with red pitched roofs and protruding arms.
